Support for a retailer specializing in home furnishings, as part of a project to stimulate innovation within a digital customer journey: the aim is to develop a range of products and services focused primarily on the Internet channel.

Mission

  • This leading distributor of DIY and home decoration solutions is aiming for strong growth in sales of online products and solutions in the paint market.
  • It wants to question and realign its approach to “product, service and process” innovation in this market, in order to help increase its online market share and sustain its strong growth in this segment (+30%).

Approach

  • Qualification of the scope of review of the innovation process :
    • Strengthen the “core business”.
    • Create new growth drivers.
  • Review of customer expectations on two main target personae.
  • Leading multi-sector workshops to identify avenues for innovation, conditions for implementing new solutions, and bottlenecks or areas for attention.
  • Definition of thematic roadmaps: products & services, operating model, processes…
  • Bring in an external viewpoint to ensure that roadmaps are realistic and scalable.
  • “Challenge” of the 3-year plan on trends, evolutions, uses, customer expectations, competition…
  • Contributing to a wider openness of innovation approaches in the minds of the employees involved.

Results

  • Structuring an open innovation approach, based on customer & distributor expectations rather than operational constraints.
  • Defining an “innovation” mantra in the paint market.
  • Reflection, identification and qualification of current and future initiatives.
  • Clarification of the “pure player” entity’s positioning in the paint market, notably in terms of complementarity with stores (click & mortar consistency).
  • Providing new services throughout the digital customer journey.
  • Development of an implementation plan clarifying expectations and achievable objectives.
